The Pinot Gris grows in the tiny \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMeer\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e vineyard near Gossoncourt, just on the Flemish side of Belgium's language border. The grapes then travel to Hélécine in Wallonia, where Patrick Carmans and Katrien Vanderschot turn them into wine. Grown Flemish, raised Walloon. It doesn't get much more Belgian than that.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eDomaine Beekborne makes this entirely from Pinot Gris and rather fittingly describes it as a \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e“rock \u0026amp; roll” single-variety wine\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e. That's fairly representative of the domaine in general: small vineyards, classic European grape varieties and natural winemaking using yeasts originating from their own terroir. Their vineyards are based largely on clay soils, with experimentation and discovering what Belgian terroir can do taking precedence over trying to imitate an established wine region.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThat's also what makes Gosse Kicourt interesting. Pinot Gris normally points you towards Alsace or northern Italy.
