The Story
In Hélécine, Wallonia, Patrick Carmans crafts deeply characterful low intervention wines at Château Beekborne. With the Vîs Tchapias Poupouye Classique 2022, he demonstrates just how refined and complex Belgian Chardonnay can be. Drawing inspiration from the iconic white wines of the Jura region, Patrick adheres to a pure natural winemaking philosophy. Grapes are cultivated organically, hand picked, and spontaneously fermented in oak casks. Unfiltered and produced with minimal intervention, this bottle captures a rich, authentic expression of the Hélécine terroir.
The Vibe & Tasting Notes
The Vîs Tchapias Poupouye Classique 2022 is a deeply layered Chardonnay crafted in that beloved Jura style. In the glass, it presents a rich golden hue with a gentle hazy glow. The nose entices with complex aromas of ripe yellow apples, candied lemon, toasted hazelnuts, subtle oak integration, and a smoky mineral undertone. The palate delivers a full, velvety texture balanced by the crisp, vibrant acidity of cool climate Belgian soils. An incredible bottle for purists seeking authentic and deeply gastronomic white wines.

Why natural wine costs more, and why it’s worth it
-
No shortcuts
Growers who refuse pesticides and chemical additives accept that they’ll lose a significant part of their harvest to weather, disease, and unpredictable nature, but they do it to keep their wines pure, alive, and honest.
-
Risk and loss
Nature swings between plenty and scarcity; frost, hail, heat and ferments can erase volumes, fewer bottles must carry the farm’s costs, with ageing measures adding expense to keep the wine clean and true over time.
-
Integrity and handwork
Hands replace chemicals: they weed, manage canopies, pick, and sort by hand; presses and gravity moves protect texture, while cleanliness and patient ageing deliver purity without shortcuts, increasing labor but preserving integrity in every bottle.
