The Wine & Winemaker
- Winemaker: Petra (Shadowfolk)
- Region: Mosel, Germany
- Grape: Riesling
The Story
This talented Finnish winemaker traded the cool north for the extreme, steep slate slopes of the German Mosel valley. With her project Shadowfolk, she brings a unique, minimalist, and almost Scandinavian precision to this historic wine region. Petra works completely naturally and refuses to be guided by the strict, classic German wine laws. She purely follows her own intuition and rhythm. The result is a vision that bursts with raw energy and holds a completely unique identity within the Nouvelle Moselle.
The Vibe & Tasting Notes
The Conjurer is an incredible orange wine made from one hundred percent Riesling. Through the deliberate choice of extended skin contact, this wine gains a beautiful golden color and a fantastic tactile grip. While classic Mosel wines often revolve exclusively around slender acidity, the Finnish Petra introduces an unprecedented texture to the glass here. You will taste complex layers of dried orange peel, ripe apricot, and wild herbs, kept perfectly in balance by that recognizable mineral tension from the soil. A crystal clear, layered, and highly gastronomic wine that truly excites the senses.

Why natural wine costs more, and why it’s worth it
-
No shortcuts
Growers who refuse pesticides and chemical additives accept that they’ll lose a significant part of their harvest to weather, disease, and unpredictable nature, but they do it to keep their wines pure, alive, and honest.
-
Risk and loss
Nature swings between plenty and scarcity; frost, hail, heat and ferments can erase volumes, fewer bottles must carry the farm’s costs, with ageing measures adding expense to keep the wine clean and true over time.
-
Integrity and handwork
Hands replace chemicals: they weed, manage canopies, pick, and sort by hand; presses and gravity moves protect texture, while cleanliness and patient ageing deliver purity without shortcuts, increasing labor but preserving integrity in every bottle.
